Wed 22.9.2021 – Sun 27.2.2022
Bill Viola: Stations
Kuvaaja: Charles Duprat, artwork: Stations, 1994. Video/sound installation. , artist: Bill Viola

The American Bill Viola (b. 1951) is one of the most acclaimed video and installation artists of our time. Over the course of his forty-five-year career, Bill Viola’s visionary use of the medium of the moving image and installation art explores key themes of human existence: birth, life and death, spirituality and introspection. His works combine polished technical execution with powerful emotional expression.

In the subterranean exhibition rooms of Amos Rex, Viola’s artistic register is on full display: from large immersive projections of mythically flowing waters and fires, to smaller, intimate works that home in on emotions and states of being. Viewers are brought into a personal, reflective experience.

The Bill Viola exhibition opens at Amos Rex on 22 September 2021 and is the artist’s first solo show in Finland.
