Afro Fusion Dance Workshop for 10 to 15 years old

Let's dance! Afro Fusion combines steps from the styles e.g. Azonto, Konto and Ndombolo.

Welcome on a dance adventure! The workshop is related to a performance "The Lava Forest" seen on Bravo! Festival in March 2024.

The workshop is led by a performer Hawa Janlo. Hawa will use her experience in Afro Fusion dance, mixing different styles from the African continent. There are steps from the styles e.g. Azonto (Ghana), Konto (Nigeria), Ndombolo (Congo).

The workshop is based on some elements of the performance “The Lava Forest” (it is not necessary to see the performance to participate in the workshop, but we strongly recommend both).

Time and place of the workshop:

Thu 21st of March 2024 at 10.00 & 12.00, the Nordic Culture Point library, Kaisaniemenkatu 9, Helsinki

We welcome 30 dancers. The duration of the workshop is 60 min. Please bring with you clothes you feel comfortable to move in.

Hawa Janlo (b. 1997) is a dancer and actress born and based in Oslo with roots in Gambia. In addition to dancing, been working in theater and writing where she has collaborated with The Norwegian Theater and choreographer/director Zeze Kolstad. Hawa is a former student of the Nordic Black Theaters study program; Nordic Black Xpress where she has a degree in acting. She is often engaged as a teacher and mainly hosts workshops in Afro Fusion. Recently, Hawa has been dancing in projects with Louis Schou-Hansen.
